Oh this is fantastic. It’s definitely something that’s been missing and been a conundrum in regards to figuring out how to sort it. Glad to see the PixelFed developer figured out how to do it.

Your frustration is palpable and that’s disappointing. Lemmy has improved a lot since we all arrived while the software experience is a lot smoother, admins have been clamouring for moderation tools the whole time. Ultimately there needs to be more contribution to do everything that everyone wants, but moderation needs to be a higher priority for sure.

I will say this though. I know you dislike developers discussing, disagreeing or even arguing, but I actually think it’s nice to see things in the open.

Whether you find happiness here or elsewhere in the fediverse, I wish you the best of success and not just because you host one of my communities 😂

Good read. BlueSky basically gives people the feeling that they’re in control, but actually is in control of everything. It’s like a house with no electricity.

True, I actually liked Windows phone. But the lack of software support killed it. Even whatsapp pulled the plug.

I think the adoption everyone is looking for on desktop is deceptive. The type of people that run Linux on desktop are averse to Telemetry and so desktop Linux will report much smaller numbers anyway. Consequently, everyone is hoping for Linux to become the standard in the professional space and there, it’s back to application support and the big one, compatibility. It’s all good if everyone in an office is using Linux, but they need to interact with the outside world, and if the outside world can’t read what they send, then it’s not even worth considering switching.

Do you really think generic Linux phones will ever be a thing? The people go where the apps are and there’s no reason for the most popular apps to make generic Linux apps. Just the idea of mobile Flatpaks makes me nauseous.

Is there anywhere I can follow along with development?

That’s fair, but the reality is that Tumblr has been dancing on a knife’s edge for a long long time. A community lead and funded effort like FireFish would provide the platform security needed for it to survive. But there’s no two ways about it, it won’t just happen magically. That said, TumblFish.social could truly be huge and propel FireFish to even surpass Lemmy in terms of users.

But they’re not moving people to the fediverse, they’re basically rolling out the same plugin integration that is available for WordPress already and the only reason they’re even attempting that is because they’ve not given up on monetizing Tumblr and in order to do that, they have to garner more traffic of which they feel that Tumblr can get with the rising tide of primarily Mastodon.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, people should move their Tumblr accounts to FireFish.

I would say that voting isn’t actually different from posting/commenting. It’s a process whereby a user takes part in a discussion/topic/post. In an ideal world, everyone would post, but we shouldn’t act like active people who don’t feel like they have anything to say explicitly, aren’t here.

I don’t know the specifics of it, but I was reading some of the Lemmy pull requests conversations and it was mentioned there

Threadiverse was around from before Meta named their fork of Mastodon.

I hear you, kinda, but… Is it Mastodon’s job to promote other services? Mastodon doesn’t even implement ActivityPub to specification, so why would you expect them to hold hands and sing kumbaya?

I will say this though, a.gup.pe and chirp.social both should’ve probably switched and became Lemmy instances. As someone that follows !Firefox@Lemmy.World from my mastodon, I can tell you the user experience for the two kinds of groups wouldn’t get worse, but only better. Especially with 0.19.x and the changes made to Markdown support. Users would be able to access the groups via both Mastodon and Lemmy and not be limited to the Mastodon UI seems a no brainer to me, especially since it’s a drop in replacement.

Edit: I will add that dickheads are dickheads. That has nothing to do with how active somewhere is. Also it takes time for a community to grow. Things will go up and down, but the general direction remains that there’s more users here than a year ago.
