I got one of those Firefox OS phones for work once, very cool idea but the performance just wasn’t good enough to be comfortable.

Agreed, numpy really could/should be built in.

Why would it be a bad sign that the language has built in tools for common things you need to do?

You cannot choose a world without AI. They will get built regardless of what you want.

With that in mind, the optimal (least bad) outcome is that your world views are represented in the dataset.

Good, hopefully it’ll make AI that is slightly less toxic than the rest of the internet.

It always baffles me that people don’t want their content represented in an AI - every word you write that gets indexed is a vote for how future AI will behave.

AI does mean something, but it’s quite disappointing.

Even mundane algorithms like A* pathfinding are technically under the umbrella of Artificial Intelligence. However the public’s perception of what AI means constantly shifts to be “whatever computers can’t do today”.

AI isn’t a scam, but damn, most of the businesses surrounding it sure are.

Nothing, just use a good tool for the job, whatever that job requires.

The statement “stupid people always say no” doesn’t prevent other classifications of people from saying no as well. Therefore someone saying “no” doesn’t give you any information on whether or not they are stupid.

The Intuitive Machines lander issue was that no one disarmed the safety switch on the laser guidance system. (No, really!) Luckily NASA had a backup system installed that ended up working better anyway.

I hope not. I know this is controversial but there’s literally no benefit from defederating. People can simply block threads at a personal level if they want.

Even if you do, everything on Lemmy is public so you gain no privacy advantage by blocking it. The only thing you might prevent is a reduction in content quality, but again, if that bothers you just block the instance yourself.

This is a classic kneejerk reaction where people are trying to prevent a hypothetical harm before it has even proven to be a problem.

I agree, but only restrict the news if it mentions Musk, not just one of his companies. For example, SpaceX does interesting stuff, and to be honest operates mostly independently of him these days.

Technology is technology, no matter which asshole owns the company.
