Y’know it’s funny because one of the proposed benefits of lemmy was the decentralized nature of the forums meant you could pick from the ones you liked, yet I’ve subbed to 5 tech instances here and they are all exactly the same. Unfortunately, at the time of the raid, our admin was troubleshooting an issue and working with a backup copy of the Kolektiva.social database. This backup, dated from the first week of May 2023, was in an unencrypted state when the raid occurred and it was seized, along with everything else.

The database is the heart of a Mastodon server. A database copy such as the one seized may include any of the following user data, in this case up to date as of early May 2023:

– User account information like the e-mail address associated with your account, your followers and follows, etc. – All your posts: public, unlisted, followers-only, and direct (“DMs”). – Possibly IP addresses associated with your account – IP addresses on Kolektiva.social are logged for 3 days and then deleted, so IP addresses from any logins in the 3 days prior to the database backup date would be included. – A hashed (“encrypted”) version of your password.

In case you thought you were safer doing any illegal stuff here, yikes.

This post is bitching about “late stage capitalism” while passive aggressively mentioning the occasional technology in parallel to their issues with the two things combined.

It’s not really technology focused at all, sorry if I wasn’t clear, I thought I was, I’m simply asking if anyone here is here because they LIKE technology, and if they happen to know a place that better represents those feelings.

Like, literally you can go almost anywhere and COMPLAIN on the internet, I was hoping this place would be a little better and optimistic for the things I enjoy.

Keep in mind before you guys decide to be hateful assholes, I’m fine with this place being however YOU guys want it, I’m not here to change ALL OF YOU for just me, I’m simply asking if there is a place you can recommend that is more in line with positive technology news, so that I can leave and we can all enjoy these places more.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with either of us looking for something we like, and having personal opinions/preferences, that was supposed to be one of the listed strengths of this place!
