I just learned this yesterday, and still can’t believe it. How can it not support hashtags? How do you find anything? Do they plan on supporting hashtags in the future, or are they on some kind of idiotic anti-hashtag crusade?

I’d feel like such an asshole driving one of these things. If someone gave me one for free, I wouldn’t even want to park it in front of my house.

How is something a crime if you do it once, but not if you do it a million times?

Because doing it a million times seriously dilutes the harm to any single content creator (assuming those million sources are from many, many different content creators, of course). Potential harm plays a major role in how copyright cases are determined, and in cases involving such a huge amount of sources, harm can be immeasurably small.

In addition to right and wrong, the practicality of regulation and enforcement is often a part of groundbreaking decisions like these, and I’m not certain this particular issue is something our legal system is equipped to handle.

Huh. This isn’t some dirtbag domain squatter, either. This is a ten year old company with a serious, legitimate claim. Plus, their services are easily similar enough to create marketplace confusion, which is a major factor in trademark cases.

I only saw parts of it… but yeah, it’s plenty messed up. What’s even worse is that it’s not messed up in an exploitative way, though. Like you said, it’s horrible because a nuclear war would be horrible. The people who were unlucky enough to survive would be absolutely brutal to one another.

Yup. Im reading this on kbin too, and my initial reaction was “Beehaw is defederated from kbin? When did that happen?!?”

Well, at the time, they hoped for eventual refederation, too. Personally, I do as well. We’ll see!

That’s my biggest problem with downvotes. I want to know why someone disagrees. That can initiate an interesting conversation.

If I’m factually incorrect, I want to know. Same goes if I expressed myself poorly. A downvote alone doesn’t tell me anything.

So, the moment there’s any amount of excitement and engagement around a “bad person or act” on here … the moment you feel the need to click, read and respond … you’re probably just being driven by engagement habits and reflexes and not at all contributing to the goals and values that the “bad actor” has allegedly compromised.

I saw the original several hours ago. I didn’t vote or comment because I had no way of knowing if the original author was lying or not. You, however, are just repeating an unverifiable rumor. I feel like I’m back in high school.

You know perfectly well that if the original becomes unavailable, there will be no way for anyone to tell if this version is authentic or if it’s been altered. This isn’t a museum, or anything remotely close to a secure archive. You’re not helping anyone.
