Also zeppo@lemmy.world. Not a lot of Zeppos out here.

Yeah, I’ve never intentionally clicked on a Temu ad. Browsers do provide an additional layer of security as far as access permissions for mobile devices, though they can of course be exploited as well.
I never install an app if I can do something through a website. Twitbook, reddit, Instagram, whatever. If it really requires an app I generally choose to just not do it.
This is nice because one of the most annoying things has been to randomly watch a video and then they start suggesting all of this content that is not relevant or is bothersome. Like, watch a video on certain topics one time and all of a sudden “check out Ben Shapiro!”
Surely Google is still tracking watch history for analysis for ads and profiling though, right?
It’s difficult to tell if it is an ad, or simply recommending popular relevant services. This would definitely be an insidious method given how much people trust the advice of ChatGPT.
I think that OpenAI would be required to disclose that some info is there due to paid advertising or sponsorship if that was the case, same as websites and videos disclose it.
To me the feudalism vs. capitalism idea refers to an emphasis on inheritance and low mobility between financial/social classes. Capitalism doesn’t have to work the way it does now in the US, but alas, this is how it is now. Sure, it sucked 100 years ago also, but it’s getting steadily worse.
I really don’t think Doctorow is brainwashed by capitalist propaganda. He has steadily and consistently opposed the excesses and abuses of the system.
Mainly I’m objecting to the “I stopped reading at…” thing. I generally find Doctorow’s work and activism to be good quality.
I stopped reading when you made up the word “oversimplificated”.
Not himself. He’d task some slave-underling with doing it.
as an AI language model, I am not able to respond to this.
“Move fast and shatter democracy”
Google has been filled with automatically generated SEO spam like that for at least 5 years, maybe much longer. ChatGPT generation is just the latest tech and is better at writing something that sounds legitimate. It still is fairly noticeable on many sites though.
I was thinking that shit wasn’t working for a few days because I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t see 2/3 of the comments or even some of my own posts. Turned out I didn’t have English selected as a language. Besides my confusion, my favorite instance! The lemming looks so blissful in the logo.
Facebook and Twitter have always had their equivalent of upvotes be public.
Spez?
Lemmy is essentially forum software. It can be connected to other instances, but it’s not mandatory. Creating a stand-alone site that isn’t connected to anywhere else is a perfectly legitimate use, if that’s what someone wanted to do.

Yeah, I was having that issue. Now that I read the comments here I realized that I was trying to upload a 3200x3200 image, which is pretty unnecessary for a picture of a pizza. Changed it to 1000x1000 and it went through with no problem.
Deleting the old one isn’t at all required, if that helps. You can use the same names on different instances because they’re known across servers as username@servername.
I got a 404 page but when I reloaded the main page I was signed in.
