  • I only really watch foss stuff, which should be exciting, but I get tired as it’s always much of the same news:

    • a new private messenger (like we don’t have 500 of those already)
    • a new app/program/distro that does the same thing as 10 other ones
    • a “simple” app/program that doesn’t do much of anything, just like 10 other ones of the same kind, will get 3 updates and then die
    • something for the terminal for terminal nerds that could really use a gui but shutup you dirty normie
    • a library that sounds cool but nobody except maybe some corporation will ever use it
    • announcement of a complete rewrite, which means we’ll never hear of the project again

So I’m not exactly thrilled about anything either, tho for every different reasons

  • I’d like the Reddit style flairs. On communities, mods could set up a bunch of flairs for people to choose from when making a new post. Also be able to assign a user flair.

I think this is useful for distinguishing e.g. questions from debates or memes.

Twitter-style (hash)tags, I understand why they exist but I don’t care for them. Everyone just puts all the tags into every post anyway. Communities on Lemmy serve mostly the same purpose anyway. Like, would technology posts on technology communities have technology tags? Silly.

  • It’s impossible based on how Lemmy works on principle.

I have a rule, that if I’m debating with someone, and they use one of these things against me (or against someone else):

    • calling up the post history (unless the receiver is an actual nazi, spambot etc.)

    • making fun of grammar (unless the receiver deserves it, e.g. doing the same thing first)

    • accusing of something bad or evil without any evidence, or being a total snowflake

    • using “grand” words like disinformation, whataboutism or entitlement completely inappropriately, and to just shut the other person up

Then I consider the discussing immediately done, and I’m likely to block the person outright, because it’s clear they only debate in bad faith and just use dirty tactics to make tgemselves feel better; so it’s a waste of time to keep talking to them, and best to avoid ever getting into that situation with the person again.

  • I don’t get that argument. Sometimes I just don’t have the time or can’t be bothered to write a comment, and a downvote serves as a perfect, fast replacement to indicate my disagreement.

Echo chambers are created exactly when you can’t express youe disagreement easily. If all you need is an upvote to agree, but need to comment to disagree.

I hear there’s this thing called ratio on Twitter, a comparison betwen something and something else, idk I don’t use it. But you know what would be just as useful? Upvotes and downvotes.

I’m tired now, today I’ll only be downvoting what I don’t like :p
