Databases need tuning for your workload, and most people just think it’s a big box where you can dump anything you want and it will work. And then when it chokes on a terrible query they blame the DBA.
This makes DBAs very cranky.
I’m just this guy, you know?

Having written PHP for many years, all I have to say about it is T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM
Those kids will be the security and networking giants of tomorrow. Good on ya, lads.
“You’ve got mail!”
If you’re starting off in slippery conditions is good to start in a higher gear so there’s less torque and you don’t exceed the lower amount of friction with the road surface.
If you’re driving in the snow you don’t want a lot of torque starting out. When I’d drive a manual transmission I’d start off in 2nd rather than 1st for this reason.
Electric motors are famous for having maximum torque instantly, so unless it’s got an accurate wheel slip sensor it will apply too much torque and just spin.
Then there’s the problem of it being super heavy. The best car I ever drove in the snow was a Scion xA. It was so light it would float above any accumulation. My motor scooter was even better.
I don’t know about you but my water bill is measured in gallons
My problem with banning TikTok is that it’s not because it’s an app that harvests data and causes psychological and social harm, but that we’re banning it because it’s not an American app that harvests data and causes psychological and social harm.
“Ooh that’s really cool” is not what I’d expect to hear after saying I’m a software engineer
I taught my kids how to do it and for a while they’d tell each other to binary four off
If you count in binary you can get to 31 on one hand, and 2,047 on two hands
To expand more on virality: Platform algorithms reward posts that get engagement because it sells ad space. Posts that trigger our lizard brain get engagement.
So the people who built that reactor were incompetent and ignorant?
I have never once attended a “team building” event and liked my coworkers more after.
That sounds like a you problem. I’ve had a great time at all of them.
I bet they had a huge amount of turnover in March because they couldn’t hit February’s numbers in January
This means 90% of the year is spent on remote work, and the remaining 10% is dedicated to employee off-site events.
I think that’s about right. Maybe a couple days per quarter for a department, and then a few days a year with the whole company together. Enough to get a good rapport with your coworkers, but not so much you hate traveling for work.
“If you trust people and treat them like adults, they’ll behave like adults. Trust over surveillance,” said Houston.
If you give people good metrics to hit, they’ll hit them. If you don’t have good metrics then you rely on seeing asses in seats to know if people are working.
This is where I think AI has the power to really increase productivity. General-purpose AIs are nice, but having one that knows the current status of projects, learns the people you talk to frequently and your tone, and has access to all your company’s internal documentation would
Instead of digging around in Confluence for a document, you just ask the AI. You ask the AI what meetings you have and what they’re about. You ask the AI to write an email to Joe about the contract renewal and it spits one out for you to proofread and send.
It would be like everyone having their own personal secretary, but one that works seamlessly with everyone else’s and never takes a sick day.
Just write a bash script to loop over them.
