I’ve been all-in on the fediverse since early 2021. Just like anywhere more than one person is there’s disagreements and drama now and again, but it’s been the sort of place I want to be and spend my time.

Unfortunately, my instance is soapbox with its own back-end, so I don’t know about how hashtags on mastodon would be interpreted. Might work!

The Lemmy world is fundamentally incompatible with the mastodon world.

Mastodon doesn’t have communities at all. It just isn’t a feature yet. So you can’t really subscribe to anything from mastodon because you’re looking a cliff face with no hand holds. There’s nothing we can subscribe to. When I look at my fbxl social user with fbxl Lemmy, I have 3 options: send message, block user, or ban. No way to follow a user because Lemmy isn’t for that.

Mastodon can communicate with Lemmy because of the way it’s implemented, however: you can follow a community like a user, and it’ll repost anything it’s tagged in so you can participate in Lemmy with Mastodon.

Pretty funny watching the tables turn, but remember fog of war is a thing, and the art of war is the art of deception, so take everything with a grain of salt.

For real, it’s so funny when you’re on your instances and you see news like “Youtube down” and it’s like “huh. Well, sucks to be them” and go on drinking your tea.

Glad I saw you say that because I plan to flip to the new version as soon as it’s ready to drop in. Federation issues really choke me up, especially when I write some giant 6000 character post then realize I’m the only one who can see it!

I guess the question would be whether Zuckerberg is Season 1 Data or Insurrection Data.

I just set up my instance yesterday and the day before, I saw some stuff that seemed dodgy so I just have a cron job to restart the software every so often.

I’ve got sign ups with applications and a hard captcha set up. My other sites had the same issues, random spam bots. Surprisingly well behaved tbh but I don’t care they’re not welcome.

I made the same mistake on my own instance.

You need to use the search. Search for !dfw@lemmy.world, and it takes longer than you think to show up. The web address only works once someone has visited for the first time.

I run my own services then just use federation to connect with many different instances. That way my instances stay up as long as I want them, and I can participate on my own terms without someone else telling me how I’m allowed to exist on the internet.

Only decentralization will prevent the platform from being broken by a few bad actors.
