Tangentially related- I fucking hate discord
08 reddit was vastly different than 12 reddit which was vastly different than 16 reddit which was vastly different than 20 reddit which was vastly different than 24 reddit.
For what it’s worth, they’re all terrible in their own unique ways. Aside from a brief window some time after 16 but before 20, during which bots and hate speech were both heavily moderated. Except in conservative spaces, but there’s no polishing those turds.
The absence of an algorithm, funnily enough, encourages me to spend more time here. Reddit, Facebook, Insta, etc., all utilize algorithms that feel as if someone is attempting to actively distract and sell you something and that quickly becomes stressful. So many distractions vying for mindspace saturates my attention and makes me, personally, feel less human.
Thank you to all of our lovely admins! It wouldn’t be possible without you!
Bringing the Marcos name back to the Phillipines, while minor by comparison, is also an issue with repercussions potentially lasting generations.
The users on .ml are fine. The proportion of mellow to overtly politically hostile is about average. Maybe a smidge higher than average. Unlike some instances, .ml is still general purpose despite its admins attempting to steer it elsewhere. In my opinion, users and illegal content are about all that should be considered when defederating. Nothing illegal and users are largely acceptable. I say this despite having been banned from .ml.
I realize that I didn’t exactly specify, so you were entirely right to say what you did. I was just referring to pre-AI books with established utility and veracity. Likening things to a modern fallen Rome, rife with knowledge to uncover. And I fully understand why none of that came through given that I neither wrote nor implied any of it. Your nitpick was very much appreciated.
Cool. Not remotely what I meant, but I do sincerely enjoy a good nitpick.
No one would notice. At worst, people would accuse it of trolling as it doubles down on factual inaccuracies. It may, and I say this without any irony, already be here and blending in. Paper books are the future.
If you enjoy tame, chill conversations and memes and little else then yes. Good is very subjective. I personally do not like beehaw, it’s a bit bland for me. The community was set up to be(e) a walled garden and it’s about as good as a federated walled garden can be.
You can always notice AI based on the random belts on armor clad figures. It’s a neat belt, but why did it begin and end at the center of their chest?
To what end are they posting? What’s the endgame? To make their website show up higher on search results? Eventually posting advertisements? Poking around for bugs? Surely they’re earning no money from posting nonsense to the fediverse.
If we ever refederate, a whitelist rather than a banlist may do some good. SJW simply lacks the moderator capacity to filter the mix of culture shock and bad faith users. Granted, a whitelist would be a huge undertaking in and of itself, but I can’t see any other way forward between our two instances.
There’s really no sage advice that anyone can offer in the wake of what is very apparently a major disappointment to you. They were just more insecure and… emphatic than was required for the job you entrusted to them. Looking back a decade, you’ll find people preaching for social changes that are now ubiquitous despite their champions’ entirely uncharismatic involvement.
The game’s not over, it just needs new players. I fucking despise hexbear now, but my opinion on socialism is largely unchanged, if that improves your mood in the least.
That describes the situation fairly well. I suppose I should have added that I’ve checked multiple instances on 0.19.5, 0.19.6 and all had the same issue for me. Editing
