  • Judging by the kind of content we have on the fedi, I can’t wait to see AI sying stuff eat the rich, Blahaj is so cuuuuuuuuttte ewewewew, There is no OS but GNU and Stallman is the prophet, Capitalism is the problem, we need to re-establish the proletariate dictatorship would at least be fun.

If someone did create an LLM using fedi content and let it loose in the comments, I wonder how long it would take for people to realize it’s a bot? I’m sure not flagging it as a bot is a violation of most instances rules, and it existing would probably upset some people, but it’s still a fun question.

  • Sh.it is turning into a Nazi bar. The alt right trolls saw a weakness and they’re now brigading the hell out of this instance. The Dude seems to be trying to fence sit on extremely vitriolic transphobia and refusing to listen to the trans folks who are trying to warn everyone that nothing good comes from engaging with a certain level of asshole. The only productive way forward at this point is to defederate exploding heads but at this point I don’t think it’s going to happen so I’m just going to grab some popcorn and watch as his great Democratic experiment meets the reality of discourse on the Internet.

  • I’ve seen them and blocked them immediately. It’s a couple of sad losers posting news (or “news”) articles. I’m one of the more vocal supporters of defederating that one instance since they’ve openly become a bigoted shithole and their mods are in favor of keeping it that way, but this? If T_D showed up on a different instance I’d be generally in favor of that instance banning that community and nipping the problem in the bud (Trumpers have been fine with sitting at a table with Nazis for a while) but I wouldn’t be supporting defederaton over a couple of assholes on an otherwise decent instance. Assuming they’re not bots, they’ll probably get themselves banned soon enough for being awful if we’ve got enough mods here that can keep a close eye on them, and maybe just using the current rules the moment they start to be openly bigoted is the right play here.

I know the mod tools on Lemmy aren’t terribly robust, but are other instances able to block individual communities without defederaton? I would like to believe T_D is a temporary problem here and I think it’d be interesting to see if the current set of rules take out the trash in a timely manner, or if they just fester while building a critical mass before infecting the whole instance.

  • Are you going over to their instance and trying to post through that? That’s not how this works. Take note of which instance you’re currently on though. The best metaphor I’ve seen is that this is kinda like email and you’ve got a Gmail account and you’re trying to email someone with a Hotmail account, you don’t go to Hotmail, you go through your Gmail account.

Assuming you’re on mobile, go back to the sh.itjust.works main page, press the menu icon on the right, select ‘communities’, under where it says “list of communities” select ‘all’, then search worldnews. There’s several options, select the one that’s on the right instance, and now you should be viewing the community while still on the shit just works instance. If you think you’d like to come back to that community in the future, there’s a subscribe option in the sidebar menu. This won’t work with all communities, but it should work with most of the larger ones (you’ll want to copy and paste something like !worldnews@lemmy.ml in the search bar instead, it’s a bit finicky on mobile though).

  • Lemmy or Jeroba just ate my comment so let me try again.

I didn’t initially want to join here, but the instance I did want to join (which is defederated with Lemmygrad, Burggit, and Exploding Heads and I think that’s a fantastic defed list) is having significant growing pains at the moment, while shit just works here. I ran across my first Exploding Heads post in All and it was gross, and it seems like the tools available to me as a user will leave me playing whack a mole to get rid of all of it which I’m not looking forward to. Right now I’m planning on moving to that other instance in a few weeks once they get everything sorted out, but if Burggit and Exploding Heads are defederated here and the issues with Beehaw are sorted out (which I’m optimistic that they will be), I’m open to staying here, it’s certainly the easiest option for me given the lack of account migration options, and the perks of being in a larger instance (the community search feature in Jeroba has worked well for me and I think it’s due to the large user base here). I’m extremely impressed with how The Dude is handling the scaling issues and his communication with Beehaw right now, also I generally like Canadians and green energy, lol.
